Given the fact that the Dock is still displaying correctly, I'd say that it was a hardware fault (as apposed to the usual display faults that occur with Apple's consumer level hardware).
Is the data backed up? Have you tried it with an external display?
I could take a look at it on Sunday/Monday, if you haven't resolved the issue.

Sorry, I mean, it's probably a SOFTWARE fault. Which is much nicer.

Its all ok we hit it really realkly hard with an I.T. Dood and it just started working!
